EastLink Environment
The EastLink Environment has been created to improve the quality of the environment EastLink passes through, for the people, plants and animals it shares the space with. EastLink includes extensive park and wetlands for native plants and animals, noise walls and architectural design features that help it blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment, as well as the new EastLink Trail for cyclists and pedestrians.
Responsible environmental management

Around 4 million native plants and trees have been planted within the EastLink Environment. About 70 permanent and seasonal wetlands filter rainwater running off the motorway, and have established new habitats for native species.

Environmental architecture
The two EastLink tunnels protect the environmentally sensitive Mullum Mullum Valley.
To reduce traffic noise for local residents, EastLink includes 14,000 noise wall panels.
EastLink noise walls, pedestrian bridges, tunnel portals, exposed rock features, buildings and landscaping have been designed with considerable architectural creativity. The design of EastLink draws on the colours and textures of the surrounding natural environment for inspiration.

A valuable resource for generations to come
The EastLink Environment extends over more than 480 hectares of landscaping and wetlands. This is an area greater than the famous parks and gardens in the City of Melbourne, and will be a valuable resource for generations to come.
