See flashing lights roadside?
As of 1 July, all drivers and riders must slow down safely to 40 km/h and pass safely whenever they see flashing lights (red, blue, magenta, or yellow) at incidents on the roadside or when emergency or incident response workers are present. Fines may apply for those who don’t obey the speed limit.
The recent change to road rule 79A, increases safety for incident response workers as well as emergency workers on our roads.
The rule now includes tow trucks, breakdown support and freeway or tollway incident response vehicles, as well as emergency and enforcement vehicles.
For workers responding to an accident, a vehicle breakdown, or a life threating situation - all emergency and incident response workers deserve to be safe on our roads.
