Tolls
EastLink tolls change on 1 July each year in line with inflation (CPI, as published by ABS).
Vehicles with different tolling classes pay different tolls on EastLink.
Cars are motor vehicles other than those that comply with the motorcycle, light commercial vehicle, heavy commercial vehicle or taxi classifications (below). Cars include those Cars towing trailers and caravans.
Light Commercial Vehicles (LVC) have two axles, cab-chassis construction, and a gross vehicle mass greater than 1.5 tonnes but not exceeding 4.5 tonnes.
Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV) include all of the following vehicles:
vehicles with three or more axles, cab-chassis construction, and a gross vehicle mass greater than 1.5 tonnes;
articulated Vehicles with cab-chassis construction, and a gross vehicle mass greater than 1.5 tonnes;
buses with more than 12 seating positions (including the driver);
vehicles with two axles, cab-chassis construction, and a gross vehicle mass greater than 4.5 tonnes; and
all other vehicles with a gross vehicle mass greater than 30 tonnes.
Motorcycles are two wheeled motor vehicles (including those with side cars). You do not need a tag for a motorcycle.
Taxis are motor vehicles licensed for operation as a taxi-cab under the Transport Act 1983 (Vic).
A trip is:
travel in one direction only
You can:
leave and rejoin EastLink
as long as you keep going in the same direction
do not repeat the same section
finish within 60 minutes
A return journey = 2 trips
If you stop at the BP service centres on EastLink:
your trip may take longer than 60 minutes
we allow extra time for fuel, food or rest
With a tag
tolls are automatically charged to your account
Without a tag
tolls are charged to your account
an extra image processing fee applies (for reading your number plate)
Motorcycles:
do not pay the image processing fee
A trip pass:
pays for one trip in one direction only
a return trip needs 2 passes
Key points:
fixed price (does not depend on where you enter or exit)
price depends on your vehicle’s tolling class
During one continuous trip:
tolls are added for each section you travel
there is a maximum total amount (toll cap)
Once you reach the cap:
you will not pay more, even if you keep travelling
Note: The toll cap does not apply to trip passes.
Weekend discount (20%)
On:
Saturdays
Sundays
Victorian public holidays
Car tolls are reduced by 20%.
This also applies to:
the car toll cap
Does not apply to:
trip passes
other vehicle tolling classes
Short trip discount (20%)
Monday to Friday (not public holidays):
20% discount for short trips (one section only)
Does not apply to:
EastLink tunnels
trip passes
other vehicle tolling classes
A single trip may include several sections.
We:
add up the tolls (without GST)
then add GST to the total
Because of rounding:
the final total may be slightly higher or lower (by 1–2 cents)
