EastLink awarded top 5 Star sustainability rating for fifth year in a row

Tuesday 1 December 2020

INF 05The internationally recognised GRESB Infrastructure Assessment covers the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of more than 540 infrastructure portfolios and assets located around the world.

Today, EastLink has announced that the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment has awarded Melbourne’s EastLink the top “5 star” rating for the fifth year in a row.

On 1 December 2020, EastLink published its Sustainability Report for FY2020.

In the report, EastLink announced that the 2020 GRESB Infrastructure Assessment has awarded EastLink the top 5 Star rating for ESG performance.

This means EastLink has now been awarded the top 5 Star sustainability rating in every year since the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment first commenced in 2016.

EastLink spokesperson Doug Spencer-Roy said, “To be awarded GRESB’s top 5 Star rating in five years out of five demonstrates that year after year, EastLink continues to be regarded as one of the world’s most sustainable infrastructure assets.”

This year, EastLink was ranked 27th globally out of the 406 infrastructure assets of all types that were assessed by GRESB, putting it well within the top 10%.

Furthermore, in the motorways (maintenance & operations) category, EastLink was ranked second in the world.

Spencer-Roy said, “Since we opened EastLink in 2008, our focus has been 100% on maintaining and operating the tollway, so the EastLink team in Melbourne is thrilled that our efforts have been recognised in this way.”

EastLink scored highly across all three sustainability pillars of the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment:

  • Environment 26/27 (96%)
  • Social 36/42 (86%)
  • Governance 29/31 (94%).

“Our increased attention to sustainability has delivered a strong performance across the full range of ESG sustainability, which has significantly lifted EastLink’s overall GRESB asset score from 75/100 last year to 91/100 in 2020”, explained Spencer-Roy.

“EastLink’s performance in the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment reflects the dedication and commitment to improving ESG sustainability from everyone in the EastLink team”, he concluded.
