October 1st, 2026

If you see emergency and incident response vehicles displaying flashing lights on the side of the road, you must slow down safely to 40 km/h.

Before slowing down, check your rear-view mirror and avoid sudden braking.

This rule applies when passing emergency vehicles, tow trucks, breakdown vehicles and other incident response vehicles with flashing lights.

Slow down safely so you pass the scene at 40 km/h. Once you are a safe distance past the scene, you can return to the posted speed limit.

This rule helps keep roadside workers and emergency responders safe.
